Howe Park Shooting Sends Four Victims Wounded in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a gunfire incident that occurred on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the moment authorities were breaking up an unsanctioned gathering of several hundred people.

How It Started

Law enforcement were first called to Howe Community Park around 6:30 PM on April 18 after obtaining information of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. After that, additional information came in regarding a potential altercation happening within the park grounds.

A law enforcement helicopter flew over the park but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Regardless, it was evident that hundreds of people had assembled at the park without permission.

The Shooting Itself

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies moved to clear the area by positioning themselves around the crowd and making announcements commanding those gathered to clear out. Nearly 15 minutes were provided for attendees to disperse.

Just as the crowd began to move that upwards of 20 gunshots cut through the air. Gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies wasted no time in locating gunshot victims.

Four Victims Hospitalized

When the dust settled, four victims were identified as having gunshot wounds. Those injured — comprising three men and one woman all believed to be in their twenties — were transported to nearby hospitals. Medical personnel noted that two had critical injury classifications, one had moderate injuries, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, all four were expected to survive.

The Investigation

The main crime scene was confirmed to have occurred on Cottage Way alongside the Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Detectives located additional shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Projectile impacts were discovered in the wrought iron perimeter fencing surrounding the Home Depot. These discoveries showed that at least one of the shooters had been aiming south from along Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was placed on lockdown during the incident. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives remained on scene late into the evening.

Suspects Detained

Details gathered through scanner monitoring indicated that a vehicle identified as a Kia was pulled over in nearby Solano County. Four occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to Solano County to bring the suspects back for investigation. Video that was reviewed established that two shooters had been involved.
